Prevention and control of stored product pests
Beetles, moths and many other insects are a major cause for substantial losses in quality and quantity of stored commodities like cereals, corn, cocoa, beans and pulses, tobacco. Most often the larvae are the ones that cause substantial damage. These larvae prey on the stored products that supply the food (starch, sugars, lipids) to sustain their growth and fast proliferation. Stored product pests are common in warehouses, processing industry, silos, mills, food production, bakeries ...
Some insects like weevils require undamaged grains and seeds for their reproduction while other insects can only survive when the product was processed or invaded by primary insects.
Most often stored product pests are spread in the bulk of the commodity thus requiring a treatment of the complete volume.
