Before goods are transferred to a silo or a warehouse, a thorough inspection on contamination is required. Often remains of previous commodities, even though limited, can be heavily infested. Moreover insects or pupae can be present since some of the stages of the insect are very difficult to detect. Thus it is indicated to treat the empty volume prior to new storage. This can be done with both insecticides and fumigation. Attention must equally be paid to loading and transport systems since they are main cause of spread of insects in a processing facility
